Daniele Tamagni

Daniele Tamagni is a freelance fashion and documentary photographer based in Milan. Trained originally as an art historian, Tamagni captures unique street style in burgeoning African urban spaces, such as Brazzaville, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Dakar, where he seeks and finds individualistic identity. In 2007, he won the Canon Young Photographer Award with a project about the Congolese dandies, Sapeurs of Brazzaville and in 2010, the International Center of Photography, Infinity Award; fashion category.

Tamagni has produced several successful photography books including Gentlemen of Bacongo, 2009 in which the designer Paul Smith wrote the preface and found inspiration for his collection spring/summer 2010. He has been exhibited worldwide, with works in private and major public collections including, Los Angeles County Museum mof Art (LACMA), Los Angeles, USA; and Museum of Contemporary Photography (MoCP), Chicago, USA.

Tamagni has continued to explore street style trends and the aesthetic of transformation in different contexts. This is evident in his book Fashion Tribes /Global Style Battles published by Abrams /La Decouverte. His latest book Mtindo about creative’s from Nairobi was published this October.
